Basic Tips for Carpet Cleaning That Every Homeowner Should Know

Carpets have been used for centuries as flooring options in houses. They look quite elegant, are available in a series of different patterns and designs, and, best of all, add a sense of class and style to any place. However, the only major downside of having carpeted flooring in your house is that it’s very difficult to maintain. If you don’t properly care for the carpets, it won’t be long before dust and stains begin to settle on the surface and ruin their appeal. Nobody likes to walk on a dirty carpet. The biggest mistake that most people make is that they tend to walk on carpets without taking their shoes off. Since most common carpets are made from wool, it doesn’t take long for the dirt and grime that’s stuck underneath your shoes to get deposited on the carpet’s fabric.

Before you know it, a big foot-sized stain appears on the carpet. While dirt stains aren’t all that difficult to remove, the real problem arises if you drop a coloured liquid on the carpet. What happens when most people drop something on their carpets? They instantly take dry cloths and try to rub off the stains.

Unfortunately, that’s just going to make the problem worse. If you rub on the stain, it will just allow the stain to spread to other parts of the fabric and become much larger than it is. One of the basic rules of carpet cleaning that you should know is that you must never rub on the stain. Instead, just take a dry cloth and gently blot out the stain. It could save you a great deal of time and hassle when it comes to actually removing the stain. Here are some other basic tips that you should know about keeping your carpets neat and clean.

Don’t Use Heat

Some people will tell you that the best way to get rid of a stain is to heat up the iron and place it on the stain. Unfortunately, using heat to remove a stain from the carpet could just make the problem worse. It could allow the stain to become a permanent fixture on your carpet. Never use heat to remove a stain from your carpet unless you want it to become a permanent addition to the pattern!

Vacuum Once a Week

Prevention is easily the best way to keep your carpets neat and clean. You should vacuum the carpets thoroughly at least once a week to get rid of the top layer of dust that generally settles with the passage of time. If you don’t vacuum the carpets properly, it won’t be long before the dust begins to thicken and eventually forms a permanent layer on your carpet. Generally, it’s recommended that you take your time when vacuuming the carpet so that each and every area is cleaned thoroughly.

Steam Cleaning

If possible, you should arrange for steam cleaning at least once every a few months so that it retains its original colour and elegance.
